What efforts are taken to reduce fraud?
The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) has implemented a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)/CaIFresh Integrity Plan effective September 14, 2012 to reduce fraud rates across the state.
Although fraud statistics are reported as a combined statistic for Cash Aid (CalWORKs) and CalFresh programs, our fraud rates are very low with nearly half of all fraud referrals resulting as “unfounded” with no fraud found. Our fraud rate has dropped by approximately 22% since last year, due in part to heightened efforts to reduce fraud in CalWORKs and CalFresh cases.
